The Micromax A116 Canvas HD has just seen its first major update released, which adds several cool new features and delivers a fix for the low GPS lock issue.
The Android 4.2.1 update will not be released over-the-air, unfortunately, although it does include OTA update support, so future OS updates from Micromax should be easier to install.
As far as what's included in the update, you get quick toggles in the notification area, along with offline voice typing, and panorama shot capabilities for the 8MP shooter. There's also the usual slew of minor bug fixes and performance improvements.
If you're looking to get the latest Android update on your Micromax Canvas HD, you'll have to contact the company's service center network.
According to Kantar WorldPanel in the three months ending April 2013 Windows Phone powered 5.6% of the smartphones sold in the US market, while Android remained in the lead. The Google platform had a share of over 51.7%, while its closest rival iOS is controlling 41.4% of the market.
Compared to the same period of last year, iOS is the biggest winner, gaining 2.3 percent points, while Windows Phone climbed 1.8 percentage points. Android's modest 1.4 percentage point growth made it only the third fastest growing platform in the US. That's still better than BlackBerry, though, which was pushed into a corner losing 4.6 percentage points of its market share and powering under 1% of the smartphones sold in the three months period.
Unsurprisingly, Kantar attributes the raise in Windows Phone interest mostly to Nokia's Lumia lineup.
In carrier news, Verizon remains the largest carrier in the country with 36.3% of the market (a rise of 1.8 percentage points), followed by AT&T with 26.3 (up 0.3 percentage points YoY).
It's been a tough couple of months for the Verizon subscribers, who were were left out of the HTC One fun. The wait is finally over then as the largest carrier in the US has confirmed that it will be offering the HTC flagship.
Today Verizon announced HTC One is going to hit the carrier's retail network later this summer. There are no details beyond this info, but we guess the pricing and availability will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
It's great for both HTC and Verizon that they managed to reach an agreement, with one extending the reach of its key smartphone and the other getting another cool handset to offer its customers.
Huawei's second Windows Phone 8 smartphone has been doing the rounds in Rumorland for a while and we even saw the first official photo of the Ascend W2 a few days ago.
Now, two more press images of the Huawei Ascend W2 has been leaked, courtesy of the popular leaks source evleaks. The two shots reveals that the smartphone will be available in a red and yellow colors, adding to the previously revealed blue shade.
Meanwhile, the Ascend W2 is rumored to sport a 4.3-inch HD display and the smartphone is expected to feature a 1.5 GHz dual core Krait CPU along with 1 GB of RAM, 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, wide range of connectivity options and a 2,000mAh battery.
Unfortunately, there is no word on the pricing of the smartphone, but previously we heard the Ascend W2 is to carry a price tag below $300. Sadly, the availability details too are unavailable at the moment.
After finally putting the production issues behind it, the HTC flagship managed to gain some serious momentumin the market and the Taiwanese are willing to do everything in their powers to build on it. The company has committed to taking good care of the smartphone and it's now about to release the first major update for the One.
Andrey Kormiltsev, the Head of HTC Russia, has confirmed the development of the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for HTC One is almost complete now. According to his tweet the release will start seeding in mid-June, which is just a couple of weeks away now.
He also wrote the 4.2.2 update will become available over-the-air.
There is still no official changelog for the 4.2.2 update on the HTC One, but we already managed to get a glimpse of it thanks to a bunch of leaked screenshots.
The HTC One is expected to get the extended quick settings menus, as well as a new percentage battery level indicator. We also look forward to seeing Android daydream and the ability to remove the docked with the update. There's also ability to long press the home button for menu settings and hopefully some other cool tricks, which we are yet to find out.

Acer has officially took the wraps off the Liquid S1, the company's first smartphone to pack a 5.7-inch display of HD resolution.
Under the hood of the Acer Liquid S1 hums a 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU and 1 GB of RAM running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Available in single- and dual-SIM versions, the smartphone features an 8 MP snapper with LED flash, DTS Studio Sound, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Acer has taken advantage of the bigger screen with software extras like the Float User Interface, 2-Way Live Screen (screen sharing) and Voice Unlock for launching apps by voice.
The Liquid S1 will start shipping in Q3 2013 in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia, UK and Germany, followed by Spain and Italy with a starting price of €349.
The HTC One is finally starting to gain traction and rumor has it the company will bring a couple more devices based on it, the HTC Butterfly S and the HTC One mini (M4).
The Butterfly S is a slight upgrade over the current Butterfly with the same 5" 1080p screen, but an UltraPixel camera and higher capacity battery, which reportedly makes the device thicker than the One.
The HTC Butterfly S is also rumored to have a microSD card slot and will presumably use a newer Snapdragon chipset. It's expected in late June.
The HTC One mini (M4) is a Galaxy S4 mini competitor with 4.3" 720p screen, dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and an UltraPixel camera. It will have stereo speakers on the front and run Android 4.2 with Sense 5.
The One mini is targeted for a mid-July launch. Previous rumors give it 16GB of storage, Beats Audio 1,700 mAh battery and LTE connectivity.
As for the regular HTC One, it is expected to receive two new color options - Red in mid-July and Blue later on.
Apple is rumored to be working on a more affordable iPhone for quite some time and even Tim Cook's denial of its existence isn't slowing down the gossip train. Today, purported images of the low cost iPhone have been spotted in China, pointing to a curvy plastic body in unison with previous reports.
The images of the low budget iPhone have been obtained from two different sources, but have a similar design. Both leaked images have a curved back, similar to what was earlier seen in the iPhone 3GS.
The Weibo user, who leaked the images claims to have got its hands on the device and the user, confirms that the new design provides a good feel in the hands.
Both images show the smartphone in a bumper case, so it's uncertain if the smartphone has a metal frame like its high-flying sibling. However, the image reveals the presence of 3.5 mm audio jack, lightning port and a speaker.
We have already seen the 7-inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, which was announced back in April. Now Samsung has announced two new additions to the lineup in the form of an 8-inch and 10.1-inch model.
The 8-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 improves upon the 7-inch by offering a slightly bigger and higher resolution 1280 x 800 display and a faster 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The slate packs a 5 megapixel camera on the back, 1.3 megapixel on the front, 16/32GB internal memory with microSD card slot, 1.5GB of RAM, LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth connectivity, 4,450mAh battery. It's running on the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 model has similar specifications, including the same 1280 x 800 resolution, only it's stretched over 10.1-inches. Only differences here are a faster 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 6,800mAh battery and strangely, a lower resolution 3 megapixel camera and only 1GB of RAM. Also, as you can see from the image above, Samsung has completely dumped the on-screen keys in favor of physical buttons below the display.
Although there is no mention of it in Samsung's press release, Reuters claims that the Galaxy tab 3 10.1 is running on Intel's Atom processors. We will need to get our hands on the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 to find out which exact processor is running under its hood.
ARM has a problem – Cortex-A9 is old and the new Cortex-A15 cores just can't seem to make it to the market (the Exynos 5 Octa and Tegra 4 both have issues getting on shipping devices). The company just announced an interim solution, the Cortex-A12.
It offers a 40% performance increase over the A9 and should bring some power saving to the table too. It supports big.LITTLE configurations so it can be paired with Cortex-A7 to improve power efficiency even further (whether it will work or not is another matter, the A15/A7 pairing doesn’t do too well).
ARM's GPU line is in a similar spot – the new Mali-600 series really only shipped on the Google Nexus 10, most current chipsets rely either on a PowerVR GPU or an Adreno. So, here comes the Mali-622, a mid-range GPU to go with Cortex-A12.
It's an OpenGL ES 3.0, DirectX 11 and OpenCL 1.1 enabled GPU that promises 50% power-saving over the 604.
A new video core was also introduced, the Mali-V500 can encode 1080p video at 60fps and decode 4K at 120fps given enough cores.
Devices using the new generation mid-range chipsets using the Cortex-A12 and Mali-622 are expected in mid-2014.
