Alleged photo of iPhone 5S front panel shows only minor changes

The upcoming iPhone 5S keeps leaking piece by piece – we've already seen the frame of the screen, now the whole front assembly has been photographed. Put alongside the front assembly of the current iPhone 5, there's barely any noticeable difference.
The screen size and the bezels are exactly the same even the positioning of the earpiece, front-facing camera and the sensors seems identical. The flex cable that feeds the display and digitizer have been redesigned, which suggests the internals of the iPhone 5S have been moved around.
There are other minor changes visible on the back of the assembly, but nothing that would suggest Apple will unveil a new design. Or this could be the cheaper iPhone that the rumor mill has been buzzing with. Or it could be fake, of course.
FanaticPhone, the site that posted these images is promising a video comparison of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S front assemblies.

AT&T is now shipping the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active

AT&T holds the exclusivity on the dust and water resistant Samsung Galaxy S4 Active for the United States. The phone was unveiled earlier this month and its worldwide availability will start with the US and Sweden.
AT&T has been taking pre-orders since June 14 with a promised shipping date June 21. As it turns out though AT&T started shipping the Galaxy S4 Active yesterday, which is two days ahead of schedule, and many users are already using the tough smartphone.
AT&T website is still taking pre-orders though it now says those will be fulfilled on June 19.
Other markets will launch the Galaxy S4 Active later this summer.

Oppo confirms Find 7, though not for September, denies Find 5 Mini

After the Oppo Find 5 came around and convinced us that the Chinese manufacturer is perfectly capable of standing up to the big names in business, we've been keeping a close eye on the company's new projects. Recently we've heard about Find 5 mini and Find 7 coming up, and as luck would have it we were just contacted by an Oppo representative, who wanted to clear out a few things about them.
The bad news is the Find 5 Mini version isn't coming at all and the rumors about it are unfounded. Here is the official quote:
One article mentioned the possible release of a Find 5 Mini. Unfortunately, there are no plans to release any Find 5 Minis.
The good news is the rep officially confirmed Oppo is indeed working on a Find 5 successor called Find 7. The device is still in very early stage of development though and won't launch this September as some reports suggested.

Here is the relevant part of the statement:
OPPO is excited to be currently developing the next phone in the Find series, the Find 7. However, development is still in the early stages and has no finalized designs or specifications. There is also no release date at this time and will unfortunately not be available this September.

Nokia Lumia 928 price slashed to $29.99 on Amazon

Nokia Lumia 928 is a Verizon-exclusive version of the popular Lumia 920 that upgrades the camera department with an additional xenon flash.
The Nokia Lumia 928 was launched in May when it was priced at $99 with a new two-year contract. Now, that the Nokia EOS premiere is getting closer, the Nokia Lumia 928 has just got its first price cut.

Amazon is now offering Nokia Lumia 928 for just $29.99 with a two-year Verizon contract. The contract-free price is still $499.99, though. There is no information on whether this is a limited time offer or a permanent price decrease.

Another leaked image of the Samsung Galaxy Note III surfaces

The Samsung Galaxy Note III has leaked several times already, first showing off a 5.9-inch display with a rounded corner unibody typical of Samsung's design strategy, then sporting a more straight-edged prototype look, and now with a 6-inch display with ultra-narrow bezels that supposedly result in 84% screen-to-footprint ratio.

Not much else in the way of specs information accompanied the leak, but a thinner bezel may be just what the doctor ordered to make the next generation of the popular Note phablet more appealing.
As far as other Galaxy Note III rumors go, there's the AnTuTu benchmark scores that have an alleged Note III clocked at 1.6 GHz, which is the same clock speed as the Samsung Galaxy S4 flagship. Also in the mix is the rumor that the Note III will feature optical image stabilization.

Qualcomm announces 6 new Snapdragon 200 chipsets

Qualcomm has secured the high-end with its Snapdragon 600 chipsets (and soon the 800) and has turned its attention to entry-level phones with six new Snapdragon 200 chips. They will be available in Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD) platforms in late 2013.
The new Snapdragon 200 chipsets come in dual and quad-core flavors (8x10 and 8x12) and will be built on a 28nm process (same as the 600 and 800, current 200s are made at 45nm).
The new 200 chipsets support cameras up to 8MP and come with a new Adreno 302 GPU, which Qualcomm promises will deliver "class-leading graphics performance" (current models use Adreno 203). There's Quick Charge support too.
The chipsets support 3G HSPA+ (up to 21Mbps), TD-SCDMA for emerging markets in China and elsewhere, and can work in dual-SIM, dual-standby (or dual-active) phones and even tri-SIM, tri-standby handsets.
We can expect to find Snapdragon 200 chipsets inside entry-level Android, Windows Phone and Firefox handsets, but it's too soon to be talking about launch dates.

Manual for Samsung Galaxy S4 with Snapdragon 800, LTE-A leaks

Samsung has officially confirmed that it is working on a Snapdragon 800 based Galaxy S4 variant, carrying the model number SHV-E330S. Today we also got a manual uploaded a bit prematurely to give us more details about what the device will be like.

The chipset is obviously new – Qualcomm MSM8974 with four Krait 400 CPU cores (clockspeed is unknown but we've seen benchmarks at 2.3GHz), Adreno 330 GPU and LTE-Advanced connectivity.

The rest seems to be identical – a 5" 1080p Super AMOLED display, the phone measures 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm and weighs 131g, there's a 2,600mAh battery inside and all the other features the current I9505 Galaxy S4 has (plus a T-DMB antenna as this is a manual for the Korean version).
Samsung will be livestreaming its Galaxy & Ativ event this evening in London (starting at 19:00 BST), so there's a chance we'll see a proper announcement of the new Galaxy S4 as soon as today.

LG and Qualcomm partner up for next G-series smartphone

LG and Qualcomm announced their collaboration on the next G-series smartphone. The successor of the LG Optimus G will sport Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 800 chipset with quad-core Krait 400 CPUs.

The latest Qualcomm chipset promises up to 75% better performance than the Snapdragon S4 Pro. The new Adreno 330 GPU on the other hand, promises to deliver more than twice the oomph of the currently used Adreno 320.
The press release goes further to point some of Qualcomm Snapdragon 800's key features. They include support for advanced 4G LTE, Ultra HD video capture playback and display support, as well as dynamic power sensing for better power management.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra screenshots emerge, confirm specs

Alleged screenshots, taken from the upcoming Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet have emerged, thus confirming the previously leaked specs. Codenamed Togari, the large-screen device is expected to break cover next month, on July 4.
The screenshots confirm that the Sony Xperia Z Ultra features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 chipset with 2.2GHz quad-core CPU, and Adreno 330 GPU. There's 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in memory on board, which can be further expanded via microSD card slot. The OS version is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
The display's resolution is listed at 1080 x 1824 pixels. The remaining pixels up to 1920 are likely reserved for the trio of virtual buttons. The listed pixel density of 342ppi on the other hand, confirms that the unit sports a 6.4" diagonal.

Ultra-rugged NEC Terrain gets announced for AT&T

AT&T took the wraps off the ultra-rugged, LTE capable NEC Terrain. The Android smartphone with full QWERTY keyboard and push-to-talk functionality will be available exclusively through AT&T Business Solutions and online on June 21 for $99.99 with a two-year commitment to the carrier.

The NEC Terrain features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 SoC with a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU. There's 8GB of built-in memory on board, which can be further expanded via microSD card slot. A 3.1" display with a yet to be known resolution and the ageing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich are also part of the smartphone's specifications.
Being a rugged business device, the NEC Terrain exceeds the MIL-810G specifications for water, dust and shock resistance. Combined with the full QWERTY keyboard and PTT functionality, the rugged credentials of the device are bound to make it a credible niche proposition.

41MP camera officially confirmed for the Nokia EOS

The Nokia EOS rumor fire has been burning for a very long time now, but since recently Nokia itself has started adding fuel to it. The first rumors started soon after the last Symbian Nokia 808 PureView was announced and even though the Lumia 920 with OIS lens was carrying the PureView brand it didn't turn out the 41MP monster many fans hoped for.
Well the wait is almost over. The company just posted a second teaser for its July 11 event in New York, which says that there will be 41 million reasons to follow it. Get it? 41 million - the same as the number of pixels on the sensor of the upcoming WP8 smartphone.
Over the past few weeks we finally saw the first live pictures of the mysterious Nokia EOS device. Now that we also got to learn the resolution of its sensor, there are very few unknowns about it remaining.

Now the 41 megapixel sensor suggests we might also see an update of the Windows Phone platform pretty soon. Since the currently available WP8 release doesn't support higher-resolution sensors, either Microsoft will have to deliver an update with added drivers, or Nokia will have to do it by itself.
Naturally we'll cover the event so make sure you stick around when the time comes.

BlackBerry Q5 hits UAE tomorrow, costs $400

BlackBerry Q5 was announced last month at a dedicated BlackBerry event. It's a QWERTY smartphone targeting emerging markets and those on a tighter budget that was supposed to hit the shelves in the early days of July.
It seems the first BlackBerry Q5 stock is going to come a bit early though, as the Canadian company will be offering the Q5 at the opening of its BlackBerry Concept Retail Store in Dubai, UAE tomorrow. It will cost AED1,499, which translates to about €305 or $408. This price tag is not what we call an affordable one, but it's almost two times cheaper than the BlackBerry Q10.
The Blackberry Q5 is built around a 3.1-inch 720x720 pixel LCD touchscreen and one of BlackBerry's classic physical QWERTY keyboards. Inside the BlackBerry Q5 there's a dual-core 1.2Ghz CPU, a 5MP camera and 8 gigs worth of storage.
The Q5 is expected to hit Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia (including the Asia Pacific region), and Latin America in the beginning of July. You can have it in black, white, red or pink color.

Samsung Galaxy mini 2 won't be getting Jelly Bean after all

Contrary to Samsung's earlier announcement, the Samsung Galaxy mini 2 won't be receiving a Jelly Bean update due to not being able to ensure the "best user experience" under Jelly Bean, according to Samsung Mobile Spain.

Understandably, this will upset a lot of people, many of whom are hoping to enjoy the latest Android version from Google on their Galaxy mini 2.
The Samsung Galaxy mini 2, released in March of 2012, runs on a single-core 800 MHz processor with Adreno 200 graphics, with a 3.27-inch 320 x 480 pixel display. It comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of box, and unfortunately, it looks like it will stay that way.

Huawei expects to sell 10 million P6 units, prices it at €449 in EU

Right after releasing the much teased Huawei Ascend P6 comes the target of the company to ship around 10 million this year. That's according to Huawei Device CEO Yu Chengdong, who's very proud of the smartphone's design and the work that went into making it.

Apparently the flagship will be priced around €450 in Europe and CNY2,688 (around €327) in China. That's a very competitive price going, when compared to the likes of the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Apple iPhone 5.
According to some sources over a thousand Huawei Research and Development engineers worked on the Ascend P6.
Huawei apparently has allocated $11 million for the marketing of the super slim smartphone in China and some $30 million more for promoting it in Europe. That's still a fraction of Samsung's and Apple's marketing spending marketing expenditure, but you have to remember we are only talking one smartphone here.
The Ascend P6 certainly looks good on paper and its beautiful , but we'll have to wait and see if the 720p display will be enough to bump heads with those 1080p ones out there and if the smartphone will be able to truly make an impact.

Android 4.2.2 JB update for Sony Xperia ZL now seeding

Sony promised to release Android 4.2.2 updates for the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL soon after their launch. And even though the Xperia ZL hit the shelves a few weeks later than the Xperia Z, it is the first one to taste the latest 4.2.2 version of Jelly Bean.
Currently the Android 4.2.2 update is available for the Sony Xperia ZL C6503 (LTE) model across Europe. You can have it both through Sony PC Companion and over-the-air. We expect the other Xperia ZL flavors and more countries to join the roll out in the next couple of weeks.
Since Sony Xperia ZL and Xperia Z are practically identical, save for the different shells, we guess the update for the water-proof Xperia Z should be just around the corner.

HTC Butterfly S is official, packs HTC One's UltraPixel camera

HTC has just made the Butterfly S official and it's a significant bump over the first Butterfly. The smartphone is powered by a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 - the same as the one in the Samsung Galaxy S4 - and has 2GB of RAM.
It's built around the same 5" display boasting full HD resolution and a pixel density of 440ppi. Internal storage is 16GB, and as is usually the case, HTC has teamed up with Dropbox to provide 25GB of free cloud storage for 2 years. MicroSD card support is available, too.
At the back of the Butterfly S, there's the same UltraPixel camera as the HTC One. It packs a 1/3" BSI sensor size with a 2.0 micron pixel size and wide F/2.0 aperture. Since the smartphone is running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with the latest Sense UI 5 skin on top, there's HTC Zoe with HTC Share and Video highlights.
Not much has changed in terms of visuals, and the Butterfly S looks more or less the same as its predecessor, safe for its thickness and different color variations - red, white, gray - and some details here and there. The most prominent of which is the metal ring surrounding the camera glass at the back.
Measuring 144.5 x 70.5 x 10.6mm, the Butterfly S weighs 160 grams and is significantly thicker than before. That's because under the hood, there's a 3200mAh battery, a lot bigger than the original Butterfly's 2020mAh unit. Connectivity options are the usual for a high-end offering and include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, DLNA, NFC, GPS.
The HTC Butterfly S is expected to debut in Taiwan for NT $22,900 (US $766) in July. The company's plans for a wider release at this point are still unclear.
